The snow storm predicted for Tuesday could put a damper on the Bergen County beat this week.
But here are a few things to watch for, snow or no snow:
1. A civil trial in a whistle-blower lawsuit filed by former Bergen County Elizabeth Musso is scheduled to get underway on Monday in Superior Court.
Musso, a former Community Development director, claimed she was fired in retaliation for reporting alleged misuse of U.S. Housing and Urban Development funds.
The trial is expected to last about three week.
2. The annual “point-in-time” survey of the homeless population occurs on Wednesday. The County will once again use the census to offer an array of services to people at the county homeless shelter.
NOTE: THE HOMELESS CENSUS HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO THE BLIZZARD. NO WORD YET ON THE NEW DATE.
3. The Freeholders have a 4:30 p.m. work session and 7:30 p.m. public meeting scheduled for Wednesday on the fifth floor of the County Administration building in Hackensack.
The board will hear an update on the American Dream Meadowlands project from developer Triple Five during the work session.
Also Thomas J. Sullivan Jr., the board’s newest freeholder, will be sworn in.
The County Democratic Committee on Sunday picked Sullivan to fill the seat vacated on Jan. 1 by County Executive James Tedesco.
Sullivan, president of the local electrical workers union, restores the Democrat’s 5-2 majority on the board.
4. The Bergen County chapter of the NAACP and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women will sponsor a free screening for students of the film “Selma” on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Teaneck Cinema.
5. I’ll be watching this week to see who is put in charge of the Bergen County Parks Department. Former Director Ron Kistner left the job Friday. No word yet from the administration on who his replacement might be.
